“One of the most successful education-based fundraisers for women of all ages in the western states,” states Christina Stoever Young member of Nevada Women’s Fund board of directors.

One of 24 designer purses hand selected and purchased by Nevada Women’s Fund board members in donation to the raffle. Each coveted bag has a “Kelly” appeal of it’s own and is often said to bring strength and joy to those who win.

You may purchase purse raffle tickets now through the night of the event. The raffle will be held live online and you must be watching to win.

Isabelle Rodriquez Wilson, President and CEO Nevada Women’s Fund

The longstanding and sought after annual event and purse raffle returns virtually!

Over 24 designer purses will be raffled on Friday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. https://givebutter.com/2021POP/the-give-back-crew/christinastoeveryoung With a shorter format and several new enhancements, rest assured that your thoughtful feedback from our first virtual event is in play.

The Need to raise these funds is stronger than ever. Last spring, over 1,000 scholarship applications were submitted to Nevada Women’s Fund with only 250 making it to the next round. After several months of reading, tears and thoughtful discussion, The Fund was able to award between $1,750 to $5,000 to 80 northern Nevada women. Now well over $8 million in scholarship funding to-date, the organization is working diligently to support even more women in 2022.

Would you like to know more about the profile of a Nevada Women’s Fund scholarship recipient? If the answer is yes, please keep reading (data to follow). She is the woman who raised you. The one you called Auntie. Your niece. Your babysitter. A favorite librarian. The cousin who knew, as did everyone else, she planned to take the world by storm.

Who are we? The tenders of dreams, purveyors of education, we’re one of the many invisible support systems that makes our community shine.

How do we shine? Because of you.

Please support the Nevada Women’s Fund in any way you may be able. And of course, if you know a women looking for assistance with her education, our scholarship process for 2022 opens December 15, 2021. (For more information please visit nevadawomensfund.org.)

How to Shop and Participate in the Purse Raffle from the Comfort of Your Home

One: Register online (remember registration is free) and purchase your virtual purse raffle tickets. Save your sign-in details, I suspect you’ll be back, at least once, prior to the live raffle.

Two: Host a view party in the comfort of your home and following safe COVID-guidelines in place. You’ll be able to stream the event from your computer, phone, or smart TV while enjoying an evening with your friends, near and far.

Three: If you are a loved one isn’t in the market for a new purse, you are most welcome to make a donation. The process is simple and if desired, allows for autonomy.

Since we are virtual anyone can join in the fun. And of course, a spirited level of board competition is in play, feel free to participate in our joy and excitement. https://givebutter.com/2021POP/the-give-back-crew/christinastoeveryoung

2021 Nevada Women’s Fund Scholarship Reception

Published by Christina on October 4, 2021, in Charitable Giving, Fundraising

In 2021, Nevada Women’s Fund (The Fund) received over 900 applications for educational funding from women throughout Northern Nevada. The Allocations Committee, serving the specific mission of The Fund, spent several months reading each application, reviewing applicants on financial need, community service, interest in serving the community-at-large in their field of study and personal adversity.

As an Allocations Committee member, and Nevada Women’s Fund Board member, serving in this capacity is an honor and a privilege. We read each and every story these women so bravely share, in doing so, these stories become a part of ours. We celebrate every successes, encourage aspirations, acknowledge trials and tribulations – we come together an empower our community with knowledge, intent and sheer passion to ensure every woman has the opportunity to pursue an education.

This year we were able to award 80 recipients almost $220,000 in funding. Unique to many scholarships, we fund the woman, not the institution. Whether it’s trade school or medical school, if you are facing hardships and have the heart and desire to achieve your goals, Nevada Women’s Fund has raised millions to ensure an education is within reach.

The 2022 cycle will begin in the new year, please visit http://nevdawomensfund.org for more information.

Join Nevada Women’s Fund for the 2021 Salute to Women of Achievement

The Nevada Women’s Fund is pleased to announce the 2021 Salute to Woman of Achievement is scheduled for Thursday, May 27, from 11:45 a.m.to 1p.m. “Although this year’s event will be organized differently due to Covid, we remain very proud to move forward with recognizing and celebrating the determination, passion and dedication of women in our northern Nevada community and the businesses and employers that support them,” said Isabelle Rodriguez Wilson, president and CEO for the Nevada Women’s Fund. “Salute to Women of Achievement promises to be an inspirational day where we can join together, virtually, to celebrate leadership, accomplishment and service to our community.”

Courage Spreads Too is the theme for this year’s event, where special recognition will be given to all the medical personnel, frontline workers, volunteers and community members who have shown courage in the face of unprecedented challenges. Honorees will gather safely at the Grand Sierra Resort for a morning of professional development, networking and special programming.

The Salute to Women of Achievement luncheon program will be virtual with each business or organization encouraged to hold a special internal celebration with their honoree. Nevada Women’s Fund will stream a lunch program to include a student and keynote speaker. This year’s keynote speaker for the virtual Salute to Women of Achievement is Dr. Jen Welter. The first female coach in NFL history, Dr. Welter serves as a powerful role model and an inspiring reminder that barriers are meant to be broken. Her career is studded with firsts. She made history when she coached the Arizona Cardinals inside linebackers for their 2015 training camp. Prior to that, she became the first woman to coach a men’s professional football league team as linebacker and special teams coach for the Indoor Football League’s Texas Revolution. She was also the first woman to play running back in a men’s professional football season with the Revolution.

Salute to Women of Achievement provides an opportunity for organizations in northern Nevada to recognize women who have excelled in their fields and made significant impacts in the workplace and community. For more information about the Salute to Women of Achievement Luncheon, including nominating an honoree, visit nevadawomensfund.org or call (775) 786-2335.

About the Nevada Women’s Fund. Established in 1982, the Nevada Women’s Fund (NWF) works with community donors and supporters to raise financial contributions and other resources to support northern Nevada women and families. NWF identifies critical social needs and addresses them through the award of individual education scholarships and grants to community non-profit organizations that share the NWF mission to strengthen, empower and inspire achievement of women in our community.

Over $200,000 in Scholarships Awarded in 2020

Published by Christina on October 8, 2020, in Charitable Giving, Fundraising, Recent Projects

“During this challenging year, the Nevada Women’s Fund is thrilled to continue its mission of empowering women,” said Isabelle Wilson, CEO for the Nevada Women’s Fund. “The women and organizations who received funding can continue furthering their goals, and we are immensely grateful to be part of their story.”

For the 2020-2021 academic year, 89 northern Nevada women were awarded scholarships totaling $209,605. Individual scholarships range from $1,500 to $5,000 and assist local women pursuing higher education in a variety of fields including nursing, medicine, criminal justice, business, science and education. Local recipients represent diverse backgrounds, ethnicities and ages, ranging from 18 to 65.

Nevada Women’s Fund is dedicated to strengthening our community by empowering women to improve their lives and those of their families.

Founded in 1982 by concerned women who wanted the best for the women and families of northern Nevada. The Nevada Women’s Fund was born to correct the then national imbalance of financial distribution from traditional resources that resulted in less than 6% of grants going to women and children. And it worked. In fact, since 1983, distributions are now over $7.7 million.

We work with our community of individual donors, sponsors and partners to raise funds and other resources to ensure we can meet the growing needs of our community and ultimate impact families long-term.

Women of Achievement 2020

Published by Christina on April 9, 2020, in Charitable Giving, Fundraising, General, Recent Projects

Dear Women of Achievement Sponsor,

Like you, we have been closely monitoring the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. And as we’ve been watching this unfold, we’ve been constantly asking ourselves – how can we best serve our community?

Following the guidance of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the State of Nevada, and to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff, board members and the community at large, we have decided to cancel the May 21 Women of Achievement event.

This decision was not made lightly and we are saddened to not be able to share what is always an inspiring day with you; one that celebrates the determination, passion and dedication of women in our community and the businesses that support them.

Since 1982, Nevada Women’s Fund has made a huge impact on women’s lives, raising and awarding $7.9 million in local funding to support education scholarships to individual women; and funding grants to local non-profit organizations for needed family services. Normally, this annual event would raise the funds to sustain our mission of empowering achievement in women and families with 100% of the funds raised from the luncheon staying in Northern Nevada.
