A Nonprofit Organization Making A Big Difference

In the heart of Northern Nevada, there’s an organization that’s quietly making a big difference: the Reno Rodeo Foundation (RRF). Founded in 1986, this non-profit is devoted to helping children with extraordinary needs, funding scholarships, and building community partnerships across 14 counties in the region.

Reno Rodeo Foundation's Mission & Reach

The Foundation’s mission is simple but powerful: “to enhance and enrich the lives of Northern Nevada families by aiding children with extraordinary needs, building community partnerships, and providing scholarships.”

What does that look like in action?
  • They support children under 18 facing long-term, non-terminal medical conditions through the Rodeo Wish program.
  • They run the Denim Drive, collecting new denim clothing, shirts, and other essentials for abused, neglected, or abandoned infants, children, and teens.
  • Scholarships: Since 1986, RRF has awarded hundreds of scholarships to local students, helping make higher education more accessible.

Impact

Since its founding, the Foundation has distributed over $8.3 million to causes across Northern Nevada. Thousands of children each year benefit from their programs — whether through clothing, support in family court, literacy, or financial aid.

For nearly 40 years, the Reno Rodeo Foundation has stood as a pillar of compassion in Northern Nevada. From dreams made real through Rodeo Wishes, to students stepping into college, to a child who simply gets warm clothes when they need them most — RRF’s influence ripples out in lives touched.

Key Programs & Events

Here are some of the standout efforts:

  • Denim Drive – Gear for those who need it most: foster children receive new clothing and essentials.
  • Rodeo Wish – A wish-granting effort for kids with serious health challenges to build hope and create positive memories.
  • Scholarships – For high school graduates and students in Northern Nevada pursuing higher education.
  • Reading Rooms & literacy programs – Comforting environments or literacy tools for children in family court or those at risk.

They also regularly hold events to raise awareness and support, such as benefit drives and community fundraisers.

Leadership & Structure

Sustaining such breadth of work requires strong leadership. As of 2024-2025, the Board of Trustees includes community leaders and professionals across sectors: law, business, non-profit, and more. Their work is supported by Executive Director Cheree Boteler and a network of volunteers and partners who share in the mission.

Why It Matters

What sets the Reno Rodeo Foundation apart is how it combines practical support (clothing, scholarships, programs) with emotional nourishment (wishes granted, comfort in stressful settings). For many of the children and families served, these aren’t just one-time gifts—they’re lifelines, often during some of the hardest times imaginable.
