KTMB Announces Inaugural Fundraiser

Raise the River 2016RasieTheRiverAd

Join Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) and Mark Estee Events for an evening of culinary delight in the Sensory Garden

Guests will enjoy culinary delights by chef Mark Estee’s Mark Estee Events, local craft libations, entertainment, and sensory activities at the Sensory Garden in Idlewild Park, Reno on Thursday August 18, 2016.

Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful has been a voice for beautification through education and active community involvement for over 25 years. With the help and support of the City of Reno Parks and Recreation, KTMB broke ground on the Sensory Garden in 2012 turning it into a permanent fixture in Reno to teach children about local ecosystems, watersheds, and pollinators through their five sense.

“The community has really come together to make this an amazing, unique and local-focused event” said Christi Cakiroglu, KTMB Executive Director. “We are grateful for the support of our featured event sponsors Wells Fargo and Dolan Auto Group, who recognize the importance of a clean and beautiful community. This fundraiser will help us raise much needed funds to continue our beautification and education efforts in the Truckee Meadows”.

The event will have sensory stations that are themed for taste, touch, smell, sight and sound, and will feature unique activities by the five sensory sponsors Nevada Mining Association, Spin Games, Granite Construction, NV Energy, and Moana Nursery.

Tickets and tables are on sale now, and can be purchased at ktmb.org/raisetheriver.

After a great celebration at Coffeebar on Monday, Sept. 22 (see prior post) – I, along with a few others, received the following notes the following day:

Hello Everyone,

I can’t say THANK YOU enough for all of your help yesterday as we hosted the 33 Year Celebration event at Coffeebar. Working with you all made the event go so smooth, fun and successful! I’ve received some great emails from people who attended last night expressing their thanks for such a great event! I have YOU to thank! You all had great attitudes and came ready to pitch in and help wherever you were needed. Special events can often times be stressful, but I must say that yesterday I didn’t feel any stress because I knew I could count on each one of you. No matter the challenge, you stepped up to it! So, thank you for all you do and WHO you are!

I hope you all had a fun night as well and were able to catch up with old and new friends! I hope to see many of you at our Annual Meeting on October 8 where we’ll celebrate together again!

The 2nd Annual Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge continues to build momentum as over 350 hikers, bikers and equestrians and five large Reno-Tahoe base corporations engage their employees in the 2014 Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge. The program, now in its second year, has inspired both novice and seasoned trail users from the Reno-Tahoe, Sacramento and Bay areas to begin tackling small sections of the Tahoe Rim Trails through six single day hikes along the 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail. Participants socialize by sharing their on-the-trail experiences, trail stories, pictures and blogging on the interactive, Tahoe Rim Trail Community; an online social media platform which is part of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association’s (TRTA) website.

Historic Pony Express Celebration Giveaway Day

Published by Christina on July 31, 2013, in Charitable Giving, Recent Projects

    ON TAHOE RIM TRAIL

Meet Pony Express re-ride riders and their horses in the Tahoe Meadows

off of Mt. Rose Highway on Friday, Aug. 9

    By Nicole Cheslock, NC Communications.

The National Pony Express Association conducted a re-ride of the Pony Express Trail just last month. The ride, including a portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail, was a non-stop event including more than 600 riders and horses. On Friday, Aug. 9, Lake Tahoe and Reno visitors and residents can meet Pony Express re-ride participants, Petra Keller and her horse Tiara Nevada (“T”), among others, on the Tahoe Rim Trail as part of the inaugural Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge, a self guided adventure open to the public.

“Adults are keen to meet our equestrian friends and learn more on the Tahoe Rim Trail, and kids love feeding carrots to our horses,” shares Keller, a member of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) Board of Directors. “Come out to meet us on the trail on Friday, Aug. 9. This is such a fun photo opportunity and recreation event with a historic twist for friends and families.”

Ranked among the most remarkable feats of the American West, the Pony Express was in service from April 1860 to November 1861. Its primary mission was to deliver mail and news between St. Joseph, MO and San Francisco, CA. Telegrams and letters were carried in a “mochila,” the Spanish word for knapsack. Keller and her friends from the National Pony Express Association will have a mochila used in the Pone Express re-ride on the trail. While other riders carried mail by horseback, it was the mochila, easily transferrable from one horse to another, that made the Pony Express unique. Since the riders had just two minutes to exchange horses, the mochila design allowed for easy and quick removal and placement on a fresh horse at remount stations, was used. The rider’s weight kept the mochila in place during the rugged rides. In addition to a mochila, T’s mother, a Nevada Mustang named Charlie, will be on site from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 9. Everyone donning a Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge T-shirt is eligible for giveaways on Aug. 9.

    TAHOE RIM TRAIL CHALLENGE

The inaugural Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge is a self-guided program designed to encourage people to enjoy the great outdoors and support the TRTA, the non-profit organization expressly dedicated to stewardship of the trail. The Challenge is open to the public and new members are encouraged to join. The Trail Challenge is excited to announce the Historic Pony Express Celebration Giveaway Day on Aug. 9 as part of the “Where’s McLeod?
